The Kibera School for Girls:
AFK is delighted to announce that through the efforts of Kennedy Odede and Jessica Posner, a grant has been given to build a school for girls in Kibera. This summer, Kennedy, Jessica, and AFK were in Kenya to begin to set up the school which will serve girls in primary school level in Kibera. Any of our supporters wishing to assist in the project can make donations and we will provide the funds to the school. As many of you know, Kennedy was granted a full 4 year scholarship to Wesleyan University in Connecticut and will return to Kenya upon completion of his education to continue to make a difference in the lives of the people of Kibera.
The school is now a reality, it was dedicated on August 18th with much press and dignitaries in attendance. AFK was thrilled to be able to be in attendance at this event. Part of the compound where the school is being built will be set aside to put up another building which will house a community library (sponsored by AFK) a micro finance co-op (from Both Your Hands and AFK), a free clinic (by AFK) and a women's center (by AFK). Also in this building will be the Youth Program (SHOFCO). AFK also had donated the school uniforms and school supplies.
We are all very excited to have the first progressive education model in the largest slum in Sub-Saharan Africa!
